Last Season for Rich Rodriguez?
I have followed college football and Michigan since I can remember and I can tell you one thing – Rodriguez will be coaching Michigan after the 2009 season. Dave Poe, a writer for the News and Sentinel in West Va. is says this in his column (here) today:
First, it’s pretty obvious to me this is going to be Rich Rodriguez’s last season as the head football coach at the University of Michigan.
I’m sensing a drop of bitterness from Poe as he goes on to say that he always seems to be looking for another coaching job, even when he has a good one. Poe, are we still trying to avenge that loss to Pitt and be angry at Rich Rod for leaving your program? I think we are. Mountaineers know that Rodriguez is a much better coach than Bill Stewart.
I hated last year and it was the most painful three months of college football that I have ever experienced. BUT, I can’t stand the people that are after Rich’s head because of last year. Did you watch those games? Did you see that caliber of QB Michigan had in the backfield? Come on people – few teams would have won many games with those two under center. I respect both Threet and Sheridan for competing and giving their all while they were on the playing field, but let’s face it – there’s better prep talent probably at a high school near you. To say that Rodriguez has single-handedly destroyed the program constitutes some pretty shallow thinking if you ask me. A supposed Michigan alum comments on this article and says:
As a UM Alum I hope you are right Mr. Poe! I want RichRod out, out OUT! In one single year he has single handedly destroyed the Michigan football program and everything we hold dear.
What I watched last year was NOT Michigan football. It was football in maize and blue, but it wasn’t Michigan. We didn’t need to be force fed change, we needed a tweak not a*****overhaul.I hope we are terrible again this year just so RichRod gets fired. Go away, you don’t belong here, and you don’t fit here. Go back to West Virginia and stop destroying one of the greatest football programs of all time.
I can’t wait for the Ohio State game when we once again have 3 or 4 wins and Ohio State starts to roll us in our stadium, the crowd is going to turn on him FAST and I’ll be there loving every minute of the booing.
FIRE RICHROD!
I’m taking this guy seriously only because I’ve seen it quite a bit over the last year – otherwise I’d assume he’s no Michigan alum. And it’s probably fair to assume that this guy was calling for Lloyd Carr’s head for his last 10 years as head coach.
Rich Rodriguez will get this program to where we, as Michigan fans, want to see it. Just wait. It’s not going to be this year, but he’s going to attract the talent that it takes to run his system and run it well. Meanwhile, back the players that are donning the Maize and Blue uni’s this year – I’m excited to see what kind of team Rodriguez assembles for this year and you should be too.

Let’s see if Michigan fares better in the home opener against WMU this year before we decide what to do about Rodriguez. Last year may have just been an aberration.
Agreed. Getting past the home-opener for the first time in the last few years would make me feel much better about the direction of this squad. I expect to see a completely different team hit that field than what we saw last year – simply because it’s year 2 of the implementation of this system. Let’s just hope that we don’t get the turnover bug EVERY single game in ‘09!
1) it’s called re-building for a reason. RR needed some RR type players before he could be successful with our program.
2) Bill Martin’s job is tied to RR’s so if the Rod goes so must Sailboatin Billy, which will not happen any time soon.
3) this weekend we will play well against ND and WIN, LOSE, or DRAW it will be clear there has been major re-building from last year. Everything has a learning curve even the spread and shred.
4) OUR HOUSE, OUR FIELD, OUR FANS, OUR GAME TO WIN!!! LETS GO BLUE
