Michael Rothstein of AnnArbor.com writes on progress coming from the defensive side of the ball according to Michigan’s 1st year defensive coordinator Greg Robinson. The Michigan fan base has high hopes for what Robinson can get done with a defense that lacks depth and is very inexperienced. Fundamentals have escaped Michigan defenders for years now, which has been a main focus this year in camp – tackling, shedding blockers, proper angles, etc.

Tomorrow is Media Day! – for more on the details check out a post over on MGOBlog.com

The Associated Press rankings were released today – and as expected Michigan did not receive any votes. It’d be nice to grab a few non-conference wins early in the season and crack that top 25.

Kelvin Grady has generated a fair amount of buzz around practice and in the media with his playmaking ability, speed and soft hands. Grady most likely will see more playing time this year than his older brother Kevin. If you watched Kelvin on the basketball court, you know that he can fly and is extremely athletic.

More of the same from Rich Rodriguez relative to his quarterbacks and where Forcier, Robinson and Sheridan stand. Here’s a quick video from AnnArbor.com…

More talk on the defense from The Detroit News – a good article talking about the experience that Greg Robinson brings to the table and his focus on taking care of the fundamentals.

According to a statement made by Rich Rod – Troy Woolfolk will be one of the starting safeties. The other starting spot is not yet filled.

Michigan football is going to host <a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20090723/SPORTS06/90723104/1054/SPORTS06/Michigan-football-hosts-Fan-Day-on-Aug.-23"about="_blank">Fan Day on August 23rd. Sounds like a fun day and a good excuse to head over to the Big House if you’ve got the time.

More good news on Devin Gardner from the Elite 11 quarterback camp. This guy just continues to impress people and is being compared to some players that have very promising collegiate careers. Hoping this keeps up until next spring when Devin arrives in Ann Arbor. Scout.com’s Scott Kennedy says this about Gardner:

“Gardner is a superior athlete who is handcuffed a bit by a passing camp that doesn’t showcase his playmaking ability with his legs. However, as one might expect, Gardner was solid in the bootleg drills, and while struggling hitting the deep-out to live receivers, Gardner picked up his game in the target practice segment, showing off better accuracy than many of his Elite 11 teammates.”

Devin Gardner -

Good to see that his accuracy is getting better and he is being pegged as such a hard worker.

The Wolverines game at Illinios is going to be televised on ABC at 3:30 p.m. Love those late time slots – moreso when Michigan is playing at home.

In a Mark Snyder Detroit Free Press <a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20090724/SPORTS06/907240384/1054/Wolverines-hoping-QB-trio-will-give-offense-added-depth"about="_blank">column Michigan quarterback coach Rod Smith says this about Tate Forcier:

“I was pleased with his progress, (but) he’s got a lot more to go,” Smith said. “He puts in the extra time. I see him as much as anybody around doing extra, because he needs to.”

There has been quite a bit of conversation and speculation in regards to who Michigan is going to add to their non-conference schedule in 2010. <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/11979782"about="_blank">Boise State has been amongst the teams heavily discussed. It appears that this is no longer a possibility as Boise State has rounded out their non-conference schedule with a bout against Virginia Tech.
