2011 Michigan Commits Are Rolling In

It sure seems like commits are rollin’ in steady at this point. The number was a hair low when Hoke stepped foot in Ann Arbor, but compare this week to the past six or eight and it sure seems like the coaching staff is getting anywhere and everywhere they possibly can. Twitter was hoppin’ on Tuesday night with news like this…

That’s the 4-star Maryland CB Black Countless confirming his stance to stay with Michigan. I’ll take those points. Then you have this, which came as a surprise to me, but a pleasant one at that…

@victors_valiant Wow.. hearing QB Russell Bellomy from Texas has committed to Michigan,, this is a really good pick up this late.

This Russell fella looks good on film after one watch. Very athletic dude, reminds me of myself.

Then you have Ohio LB Antonio Poole out of Cincinnati committing today. New Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattison was in his spot yesterday and got the commit. This is a good pick up.

Michigan is now sitting at 16 recruits. We’ll see what else Hoke and crew can pull by the Feb. 2nd signing day. I’m hearing that 4-star TE Chris Barnett is visiting this weekend, and Barnett is currently an Arkansas commit. Chris Bryant is a 4-star OL that announces Friday – Michigan definitely has a shot. Rumblings of something with 4-star DE from CA, Davon Moreland. May also have a decent shot at 4-star linebacker from CO, Leilon Willingham.

Positive Thinking…

As far as “interesting” goes – this season has been nothing short of interesting. Michigan fans have experienced some real nice highs – see Notre Dame win. And this team has given Michigan fans some September-provided-hope-ridden lows – see Penn State loss. There are plenty of reasons to be negative at this point in the season. Michigan’s D is outright bad. Boubacar Cissoko was dismissed from the team this week. 1-3 in the last 4 games and the one win was essentially a scrimmage against a team that didn’t belong near the Big House. Negative this shitty that RR what are you doing G. Rob your an idiot, etc. I’m a positive thinker – and it’s an easy time to be a positive-thinking Michigan fan because there are actually a lot of positives to take away from where this program stands right now. Check it.

REASONS TO BE POSITIVE

This coaching staff has shown that they can keep a team focused and together through tough losses and time of adversity. It hasn’t shown it’s impact on the field quite yet, but you wait – it will.

Michigan has truly only been beaten badly in one game out of 8. Can’t quite say the same when considering last year. A wonderful reason to be positive about the future.

There are 2 seniors on a decimated defense – ANY recruiting should help this.

Tate Forcier could very easily be one of Michigan’s greatest quarterbacks. He has shown some incredible moxy and for some reason even when he plays bad it’s acceptable.

One of the best dual threat quarterback recruits in the country – Michigan’s own Devin Gardner has committed to don the maize and blue next year.

There are solid running backs to step in and take over for Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown next year.

Offensive perimeter guys are young and talented – and already have an adequate amount of game experience.

This list is going to get longer. And it’s going to be something I post every week. Because losses happen – no way around it and negativity is all over the place. If Michigan is ranked #1 in the country in two years – nobody is going to remember the loss to Iowa – or the beat down by Penn State. Go Blue. Beat Illinois this week.

Wednesday Quickies: Carr & Rodriguez golf, RB recruit decides & Dan O’Neill announces transfer

Rodriguez and LLoyd Carr hit the links for the Alro Steel University of Michigan Golf Day where it sounds like old boy Carr gave RR some words of wisdom for this upcoming 2009 season.

Over at UMGOBLUE.COM there are some new pics of the indoor practice facility that is going to replace Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Per the Free Press it looks like it might be named after Al Glick – a man who donated $8.7 million for the facility.

Austin White, the three star running back out of Livonia, MI is going to announce his decision today and it looks like it’s between Michigan and Michigan State. White has received offers from LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame and a handful of Big Ten teams. White’s brother Myles is currently on the Spartan roster in East Lansing – and he also had a brother named Mitchell who was kicked off the MSU team. White seems to be leaning towards UM – based on his interview at MGOBlog.

As expected, Michigan’s O-Lineman Dan O’Neill is transferring from Michigan and going to Western Michigan. O’Neill will be playing along side his brother – a tight end at WMU.

Lastly, is it almost September already?! Once we hit August and practices start time will fly and we can start polishing up our tailgating gear for this season, make sure our DVR is ready (I cancel cable from January through August – so this applies to me) and hope RR and the boys can turn it around!

Jeremy Gallon Academically Qualifies

For some time now there has been some speculation that a few of the 2009 recruits had some issues with qualifying – one of those being Jeremy Gallon out of Apopka, FL. According to thewolverine.com – Gallon has qualified and will make his way to Ann Arbor to suit up for the Wolverines August 9th.

If you haven’t yet seen Gallon in action – he’s got some speed that Michigan could definitely use on the corners come September. Check him out.
